Part to Full Time Seasonal Field Hand & CSA Attendant
Moonrose Farm is a chemical-free vegetable and flower farm with low tillage practices and a focus on growing healthy food for our community located in Rehoboth, MA. Moonrose Farm is a safe space for all and we strongly encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks to apply.
This position is ideal for someone who has an interest in farming and experience in customer service. We are looking for one hardworking individual to join our vegetable production team. This individual will work in the field, on the wash and pack line, and at our CSA pickup in Cranston, RI. The right candidate for this position is reliable, self-motivated, organized, customer-service oriented, and knowledgeable or interested in learning more about local seasonal produce.
Schedule Details
The schedule for this position varies slightly as the season progresses.
April - 2 days, average 16 hours a week
May - End of October- 5 days, 40-42 hours a week
November - 2 days, average 16 hours a week
April 1-27 - 2 week days (flexible which days)
April 28- October 31 - 5 days (Monday-Friday 8-4)
*June 4 - October 22 the Wednesday shift will switch to 11-7*
Nov 3 - Nov 22 - 2 week days (flexible which days)
Responsibilities include:
Field Shifts

Assist farmers- with daily chores & helping move chicken coop as necessary. Collect eggs and provide food and water to chickens as needed. Oversee workshares (folks working 1 shift weekly in exchange for a CSA share) during field, harvest, and wash shifts to ensure quality and accuracy of work.

Greenhouse- assist with weekly seeding schedule and daily watering. Open and close greenhouses daily, depending on weather as applicable to your schedule.

Field work - participate in all aspects of field work from bed prep and transplanting to weeding and bed maintenance. Follow instructions for proper plant spacing, bed prep techniques, plant variety identification, and appropriate time management as outlined in training. Participate in harvesting and washing vegetables, ensuring products are picked at their peak and stored properly.

Flowers- harvest and bunch flowers at the appropriate bloom time. Deadhead flowers as you harvest as needed. Store flowers properly in cold water, shade, and safely in the cooler. Wash buckets after use. Assist with floral design for CSA and farm stand bouquets. Participate in wedding/event floral design and installation upon request.

Record keeping- Maintain the accuracy of the crop plan by recording when and where crops are planted each week as well as when soil amendments are added. Record greenhouse seeding dates as they occur. Record all produce harvests as they occur on harvest logs, enter data into spreadsheet weekly.

Harvest- Oversee workshares during harvest shift to ensure high quality of product. Check quality / size of produce harvested by workshares frequently as you will be held responsible for quality. Harvest shifts will take place at least twice weekly for the CSA and for the store.

Wash/Pack/Distribution - Oversee workshares to complete the washing and packing of produce, filling wholesale orders, and recording yields. Maintain organization and assist with the cleaning of the walk-in weekly. Ensure each bin is properly stored and dated and stacked according to use. Maintain organization of the white board to track harvest yields.
CSA shifts
Once CSA season begins this team member will be responsible for making a delivery route and attending CSA pickup every Wednesday evening and the shift changes to 11am - 7 pm.

CSA:

Manage weekly CSA distribution for Cranston location. Organize and pack boxes within the allotted time frame with the help of 1 other team member. Supervise the pack up to ensure the highest quality produce is being used. Independently manage CSA pick up at the Cranston location including set up, break down, and transport using a company vehicle. Connect with our CSA members to build lasting relationships with the community. Collect and record payments at first CSA pickup, charge SNAP customers weekly using a mobile processor. Use down time at CSA pickup to input harvest records digitally.

Pack, label, and deliver weekly produce and flower orders ensuring the highest quality, correct packaging, and accurate orders

Drive a company vehicle to Providence and make an average of 2-3 deliveries before driving to CSA in Cranston

Maintain cleanliness of delivery vehicle

Communication

We use an app as a schedule and to assign our weekly tasks. This team member will be required daily to read and check off tasks on our shared list on a smart phone.

This team member will be required to read the weekly CSA email and schedule to accurately answer CSA member questions at pickup.
Reliability is extremely important. Must be committed to the full season. Please inform us of any planned vacations at the start of the season. Extended time off requests are unlikely to be granted for the months of May and June.
Requirements: We require that you are able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. We work rain or shine and require our team to be adequately prepared with appropriate attire for rain/mud/extreme heat/snow. You must be in good physical health and able to come to work hydrated and ready to work in hot weather. You must have reliable transportation. 1 season of related farming experience preferred but not required. Owning a smart phone is not required to apply. Valid drivers license and insurance are required as you will be driving a company vehicle.
Compensation $15.75 per hour plus:
